INSTRUCTOR

It all started when I needed some extra income to supplement home remodels. I hooked up with ECC (Edmonds Community College) who wanted to start a 3D animation program using Maya. I created a Intro to Maya curriculum for them and taught for a couple of quarters, then handed the reigns over to capable hands. I work I did for ECC caught the eyes over at Edmonds School District #15 which contains fours high schools. They wanted to set up a high end computer lab teaching 3D in all four of their high schools. As a prototype I set up a curriculum using Max (because of the cost or else I would have gone with Maya) targeted for high school level for Meadowdale High School and taugh there for a year. Later, having to train all the teachers at each high school, I rotated for another year at Lynnwood High as well as intermitten teachings at Mountlake Terrace High and Edmonds Woodway High. And then like ECC, handed the reigns over to capable hands.

I went on to teach for Mesmer when they brought in companies wanting to train their current art production departments. The first group was Valve Software, the makers of Half-Life. Then I taught three groups from then, Infogrames Humongous Entertainment, makers of Pajama Sam, Freddi Fish and Backyard Sports, but now they are Atari Humongous. Afterwards, Humongous sought to hire me full time in order to continue training the art department.

The next wave of home remodeling brought me to Cornish College of the Arts. Cornish was unique in that they wanted to focus on a curriculum that stressed critical thinking. Based on this, I developed curriculum geared for this and taught there for a quarter as well.

These days I've gone underground in my teaching 3D to those who want to be brought up speed quickly. In return they provide art content that I need for my personal projects which they in turn use for their web portfolio crediting the project as one of their first production work. I've found this arrangement to be a win-win plan.

Here are samples of two of my past students. The people and the city environment were done by Sean Sterling and the Groundhog was done by Erin DePhillips.

More recently, I did a lecture at the Art Institue of Seattle on Modeling in Maya and at 3December on Character RIgging. People have asked me for copies of my PowerPoint file so here they are.
